Yellow Spotted Monitor Lizard, Kakadu Park. Wildlife Ranger Featured Print

Yellow Spotted Monitor Lizard, Kakadu Park. Wildlife Ranger

A colour, close up portrait of a Yellow Spotted Monitor lizard (Varanus Panoptes)in profile in Kakadu National Park, Northern Territory. This image was taken while filming Wildlife Ranger 1979: Set in the beautiful but isolated Kakadu National Park in the Northern Territory, Wildlife Ranger traces the lifestyle and duties of a national park ranger, including protection of and research into the diverse range of flora and fauna in the area. The program follows two rangers plying a boat along the waterways in the wet season to check out a remote rookery. This allows viewers a close-up look at this unique environment, both at ground level and through breathtaking aerial photography. The northern monsoonal forests, grasslands and wildlife are shown in all their beauty, colour and diversity. The program also touches on the problems of remoteness from major towns, illustrated with the arrival of the fortnightly mail plane from Darwin

A cameleer leads a camel train along a dirt road in the outback

Cameleer Kurt Posel leads a camel train along a dirt road in the outback. The group is in profile heading towards and just to the side of the camera. In the background is a sparsely shrubbed rocky outcrop and a big, blue sky with clouds in the distance.
This colour image was shot in open country near Simpsons Gap (Rungutjirpa) in the West MacDonnell Ranges, Northern Territory, while filming Australian Wildlife Series: Camel 1975: Although not a biological study of this notable contributor to Australia's history, this film corrects some of the popular misconceptions about the camel and its habitat. In addition to showing camels in their rough and risky Australian environment, the film includes the people who work with camels in the Australian outback
